General Play Behavior for Cockatiels
(complied over more than 10 years of play behavior studies & research)

Unfortunately, the standard Cockatiel toys have been limited for far too long
to the basic little plastics, bell toys or swings, much like the Budgie toys have been.
We have found however, that Cockatiels love to shred & destroy just as much
as all the other parrots.
Their favorite textures by far are; Palm, Corn Husk, Straw & Foam.
They also enjoy thin leather strips & frayed sisal rope for preening & of course
they love their bells.
Many Cockatiels prefer their shreddable toys to be hung against the side bars of their cage. This is a less threatening position plus it gives them better control of the toy
and allows more room for their bell & swing toys
Most Cockatiels love swings & will enjoy hanging upside down from them,
with their wings spread to enjoy a good misting from a spray bottle.
On average, Cockatiels don't play with foot toys, but if you can secure it to the cage with a clip or cord, you can take advantage of the affordable variety foot toys can offer.
Boings and bouncers are also good choices for most Cockatiels.
Generally Cockatiels love yellow and orange but they may shy away from red.
Birdie beds usually need to be introduced at a very young age in order for the average Tiel to accept & enjoy them. If possible, I encourage you to do this, I believe a sleeper can help, if not eliminate "night frights", a condition far too common in many Cockatiels
