African Greys can be a bit difficult when it comes to
toys.
It is important to introduce new toys slowly, in most cases,
because
they are often extremely apprehensive towards new things.
Most Greys will accept smaller more subdued toys quite readily.
It also helps to hang the toys on the side bars at a lower point
(perch level)
rather than from the top of the cage in a predatory position.
They usually prefer easy to shred materials rather than hard or thick wood toys.
Generally, Greys enjoy a wide selection
of foot toys.
Finding a surprise inside a toy is very intriguing for
a Grey and will
usually capture & keep their interest.
Foraging style toys are a must with these inquisitive parrots.
Foraging should be encouraged as a part of their daily behavior in order
to help keep them properly mentally stimulated.
Greys tend to like textures that make a gentle noise, like the rustle of
paper
or cellophane or the clinking noise of plastic parts
clapping
together.
Swings, Boings and bouncers are usually a big hit for these parrots
The average African Grey is not
overly fond of birdie beds
but there are always exceptions to the rule.
